As a creative, I’m always looking for ways to make an impact. I know that existing in images is incredibly important, no matter the age, no matter what you look like, no matter where you are in life. Images immortalize you. When you are gone from this world, your family will only have images to remember you by. But what about now? The now that we live in? Do you feel beautiful? Special? Loved? I certainly hope so, but I know that isn’t always the case. And since I specialize in fashion and high school senior portraits, I wanted to make an impact with the younger generation. The up and coming seniors. The “Tweens”. Not quite in high school, not quite comfortable in their own skin, still growing and learning who they are as a person. (Let’s be real, I’m 33 and still trying to figure out who I am as a person.)
I wanted to gift some very deserving young girls the chance to be photographed in a beautiful, natural, yet “fashion” style. So, I created the As I Am project. These girls get to have a photo session, showcasing their talents, who they are, what they’re into, and then a little fashion session. I bought each of them shirts from a company called So Worth Loving, and they get to have their images featured on the companies Instagram page!
I also asked mom to reach out to all the important people in the girl’s life, like dad, coaches, teachers, aunts, etc. and asked them to answer some questions about the girl, conveying how beautiful she is inside and out. Everything was put together in a beautiful slideshow, and they were gifted a print, as well.
The first model was Katrina. A little shy, but you can see in those eyes, all the kindness in the world. Meet Katrina.
